Asgeir-session-405

Ásgeir became something of a sensation in his native Iceland back in 2012, winning a host of awards while his debut LP Dýrð í dauðaþögn racked up the sales. So much so in fact we have the now infamous stat that one in ten Icelanders own the album.

Since then an English-language version has been created under the guidance of John Grant and is set for a Europe-wide release this month – titled In the Silence (out on Monday). His story is a compelling one – being raised in the tiny isolated village of Laugarbakki in the North of the country, home to just 48 people, with his 72 year old father penning most of the poetic lyrics.

So. As you may know The 405 back in November covered Iceland Airwaves – and on the strength of Ásgeir’s story decided to take a lengthy road-trip out of Reykjavik through the mountains and Hoth-like landscape to Laugarbakki, where we filmed a session with him in a tiny (and eerie) church of his track ‘Going Home’. Check out the photos of the journey below from the mind of Will Cook.

The session is taken from an upcoming in-depth documentary that we filmed on the Icelandic music scene – so watch out for that in the coming months.
